Arrived from Bristol at the new, delightfully designed Willy Brandt Berlin airport tonight. Willy Brandt was the West German chancellor in the late 70s and helped the further integration of Europe. Tonight we were one of the first Brits to return to Europe after the UK formally left it three days ago. At the passport control the lady directing incoming passengers shouted, ‘Europe’ or ‘non-Europe’? It really hit home at that moment
